Shake The Ugly Off ? ? ?
Have you seen the pictures of her with all the body work on ?
I'm all for chopping up a bike but, really now. Would you take a almost 100% 69 Chevelle SS 396 and make a rat rod out of it ? That's the kind of thing you do to something that is already a wreck or needs a total restore anyway. I will be doing some stuff to make this bike my own. But I'm keeping it as a classic hot rod.. A good example would be the red rear lens instead of amber. Of course there will be the name on the tank thing. I don't know if I posted her name yet. At the risk of repeating myself. I am calling her GINA-MARI.

OK, I agree. I had a buddy cut up a 1976 cb750 supersport to make a bobber and it pissed me off. The bike was mint before he started. There is something to be said for keeping an original piece. So put on your best 80's atire and ride that bitch with a smile.

The gas leak between carbs has not sealed up. Crap. Looks like I'm going to have to pull the carbs and put new o-rings on the tubes. I don't look forward to this since there is no place for the air box to shift back to. I got to pull the battery box. No way I'm going to try to do it with the limited clearence I put it in with. Maybe I can just loosen up the battery box and jimmy it around a bit ? Damn it looks like the fender is in the way of moving the battery box. What a pain in the ass.

Nope. It is not current with DMV. I got pink slip and have it non-op. Thought of pushing it over to the school yard but the cops are doing something over there. I think they are making a sub station in the old school. The one afternoon I saw nobody.Boom out of the blue they showed up. So the long answer is no riding on her yet. But now I got a bell to hang on her, I think that will keep me safe. At least from the gremlins.

6 Month Up Date
The Silver Rebel has been a nice garage ornament, but it's time to get back to work. I have just been dreading the removal of the carbs. I have heard different ideas but yet to have found any way that "works" for me. I ended up doing a lot of removal in order to get the carbs off with out wanting to destroy something. Unless I'm missing something the only option is to push the air box back as far as the frame will allow. But the battery, battery box,and electrical are all in the way and to get the battery box out I needed to pull the fender back too. I know it can be done with out all this. But.... The time and hassle it took me to install the airbox and carbs first time around taught me. I don't think it will take any longer this way. Hate the effort but my peace of mind is worth it.
So I got the carbs off and am going to split them and install o-rings on the tubes that are leaking. Couldn't find factory o-rings so I got a box of Nitrile rings to work with. Any body got any input on this kind of ring ? I'm told they will stand up to pump gasoline but may not do well with some fuel additives.

I have never used Nitrile rings, but I wouldn't hesatate to. I try to buy viton rings. I think I might have a set from some carb kits if you need them? I can UPS them.

OK I'm slow. Been riding and since I got two runners this has been Slow. Got the carbs split the other day and new o rings installed on the tubes. There is a spring that goes between carb 2 and 3 that controls the choke. Aghhhhh.. I swear I have no idea why it was so hard to get it installed and with enough tension to work the butterfly. Five-six times of back togeather and no choke. I got it now but believe that I had to put an extra wind in the spring. The screws that held the butterfly to the shafts needed to be replaced also. They were staked and upon removal were kind of shot. I still need to do the bench adjustments prior to reinstall. Before I reinstall I am going to install brass nipples inplace of the vacuum port screws at the manifold. This way it will be easy to hook up the carburetor synchronizers. Pictures to follow.
