Carbs are back together and bench set. There is a long round about way to adjust the air fuel screws on a 750. But on the 900 they just say 1 and a half turns out. I would suppose there is no reason one couldn't make the adjustments many different ways. I found mine were at 2.5 turns. Not sure but have heard a rule of thumb if they need to be out more than two turns you need a bigger pilot jet. I guess I will see. It ran and is stock, so I'm guessing who ever tuned it before just richened it up since stock tends to run lean.
Talking carbs. This is a good read.

Ya they are a bitch. Tune them with no air box and it's a pain, try to run with the air box and it is near impossable to install them. I dread putting these back on. At least I can check them for leaks before I put everything back. I do want to keep the airbox on this bike. So guess I just got to buck up to it. Maybe tommorow....

An air box is a must on those carbs gr8. I've got a 1981 CB900 that I'm going to get started on in a few weeks and I'm already mad at it. Those air boxes suck to put on and off. No pun intended. Two CV carbs with no air box is almost do able, but four is different. Good luck!

I'll kill two birds with one stone here.
toreadorranger: My CB 750 runs well with pods. It has CV's and maybe I just don't know how good it can be,BUT. As I say it seems all good to me. Since the 900 is a very clean and stock I wanted to keep it as my UJM Hot Rod. So I will leave the air box.
BeeDub: See above... I may have been lucky. Maybe the way I sit over the carbs,Who knows. But as stated the 750 seems to run well. What kind of 9 you got ? ( F or C ) I don't care for the shaft, though I know they run smooth and less to keep up with. What with no chain adjustments and cleaning to be done.

It's a C. My buddy hit a Mini Cooper with it. Bent the forks and header. So I picked it up cheap to sell.

I remember now. Wish I remember so well the carb bullshit.
Carbs are back on. Aghhhh. I guess I will remember the more I do it but yikes. Getting the carbs and air box back on.... Don't start me. I remembered how it was trying to get the throttle cables on once carbs were installed,so I did that first. Got the carbs on and found getting the airbox then in place wasn't going to happen. Take the carbs off again, install air box in place. Reinstall carbs to engine, install air box to carbs. DONE>>> What a pain.... Hooked up a fuel bottle and filled up the carbs. Got a slight overflow from float valves but the pipes all sealed and that is what my main problem was before. Battery still had 12.1 volt but tossed on charger just to top off. Starting to put the rest of the removed items back on. Might even get to start up today. That would be cool. Also got the vacuum ports to install in front of carbs for sync hook up. I'm going to leave these in place with caps on. Believe it or not they say one should synchronize ever 5000 or so miles.

Half way back togeather. Battery back in and she started up fine.I can tell that the carbs are going to need to be synchronized but for bench setting it, she runs well. took her for a spin down the block. No seat,no tank,no current tags,no problem. Found out the sub station across the street from me is not the City Police. It is the school district that has their own police. I guess they are real enough. They have guns and a badge. Their cars look like a copy of the OPD except they say Oakland School Police. Anyway I thumbed my nose at them. What? they are going to give me a traffic ticket. One of the guys asked me about my test ride and I asked if they didn't have school issues to deal with. Leave the city work to the city police. The way I saw it is they were not the city police and they should not be worried about my test ride in front of my own house. If I was on the school grounds then they had cause to say something. On a side note. It is a damn shame that a school district needs their own police force. And these guys are loaded for bear. Not only did they have side arms with 2-3 extra mags. Ther carry shot guns and have AR15's. Glad I don't have kids in public school in Oakland. What is it a war zone ? Going to shoot a kid for not going to school ?
